Travel to France
France, a country synonymous with art, culture, and gastronomy, is so much more than just baguettes and the Eiffel Tower…
In our opinion, France is one of the most diverse countries to visit in terms of travel experiences!
From the romantic streets of Paris and the sun-kissed beaches of the French Riviera to the historic châteaux of the Loire Valley and the picturesque villages of Provence, France just has so very much to offer for visitors of all ages and interests!
Best Time to Visit France
Summer (High Season):
June to August is the summer season and also the busiest season. Temperatures can soar especially in inner-city Paris and Southern France. Think sunny days spent on the plage, but also plenty more crowds.
Shoulder Season:
Autumn runs from September to November and offers milder temperatures and far fewer crowds than the Summer, making it an excellent time to visit. Likewise, March to May is Spring and offers pleasant weather, less travellers and bargains are to be found!
Winter & Ski Season:
December to February means winter time is here – and makes a perfect time to visit beautiful Christmas markets and festive village displays, as well as ski trips to the Alps region!
Keep in mind that some parts of France operate seasonally. For example, along the Cote d’Azur or French Riviera, restaurants may only open up in April, and will run until September or October, closing for the winter period.

Transport in France
Trains
The SNCF operates an extensive rail network across France, including high-speed TGV trains connecting major cities!
Public Transit
Cities have efficient metro, tram, and bus systems. Paris’s RATP network is particularly comprehensive and very easy to understand.
Taxis and Ride-Sharing
Taxis are available in urban areas; ride-sharing services like Uber operate in most French cities.
Car Rentals
Useful for exploring rural regions and living out your dream French road trip, but ensure familiarity with French driving laws before renting a car.
Domestic Flights
Cheap flights are available between major cities, though trains can sometimes work out to be faster. Airlines such as Easyjet and Ryanair can offer very cheap means to get between Paris and cities in the South of France or Bordeaux.
Safety in France
France is generally safe to visit. Be sure to be particularly vigilant against pickpockets, especially in crowded areas like on the Paris metro, around tourist sites, and cafés.
Don’t leave your phone sitting on a café table and be wary of wearing a backpack that can be unzipped behind you.
